Connectors - Motorola RCA MHV MX

Motorola RCA MHV MX Connectors - The Motorola Pin Plug style connector has been used in early automotive applications for many years. It is and has been used as well for many type of police scanners and other radio applications.  The common adapter for this connector actually works as both the Pin Plug and a RCA male mainly due the length of the adapter body on the plug side. As such it is handy to use for many ham radios such as Heathkit, Collins, etc. The RCA connector is most often used for audio and video connections, however is is also used for RF connections on many radios. MHV connectors are called Miniature High Voltage connectors and looks similar to a BNC connector although the two are not designed to mate.  If mixing a MHV and BNC connection one can create a hazard from the high volages and from this aspect the SHV connector was designed and specifically made to not be able to mate to a BNC. The MX connector is a designation used on many Motorola handheld radios for the antenna jack.  One should be aware that many of the Motorola HTs have the entire antenna jack RF hot, so if you are using the wrong adapter you can at the very least get poor performance or damage your radio. MX connectors or adapter come in usually two style, one with a entire plug RF hot and one with a RF hot center and ground or shield on the outside ring. Be mindful of what you need.
